SNSD's Korean Mini-Abum "Hoot" - Japan Edition

SNSD has released their latest mini album “HOOT” in Korea. On December 22, NAYUTAWAVE RECORDS will release 4-types of this album for the Japanese edition. “Deluxe First Press Limited Edition (DVD Included)”, “First Press Limited Edition (DVD Included), “Limited Edition” and “Regular Edition”. The “Deluxe First Press Limited Edition”, will include the big hit Korean songs “Genie”, “Gee”, “Run Devil Run”, “Oh!” and 6 other Korean bonus tracks. The DVD includes their Showcase Live from Ariake Coliseum from August 25, 2010, as well as the “HOOT” music clip. Furthermore, it will include the original Korean photobook, stickers and one random photo card out of 18 possible photo cards. The Deluxe First Press Limited Edition is expected to go out of stock in the early stages of ordering. So, order ahead of time!

TL Note: ALL of the songs will still be in Korean, there will be NO new music material.

All-kill for Taeyeon and The One’s “Like A Star”

Taeyeon and The One’s duet “Like A Star” recorded an all-kill on various online chart, just one day after the release on November 17th.

On November 18th, “Like A Star” took the no.1 spot on various online real time charts such as MelOn, Soribada, Bugs!, Dosirak, Cyworld Music, Monkey3, Naver Music, Daum Music and other domestic music charts.

The “all-kill” phenomenon was expected due to the overwhelming response even before the song was oficially released. On the same day as the Korean SAT exam,”Like A Star”‘s domination on various charts started as early as 9.00am in the morning. At 12am midnight, “Like A Star” achieved an “all-kill”.

Just how big is SNSD's kpop musical achievement

By major music show wins we mean Mubank and Inki wins.
The record for most major music show wins in current kpop era is held by SNSD, currently with 38 wins
2nd place has 25 wins, 3rd place has 21 wins

Once Hoot promotion is over the record will go past 40 wins and it is unlikely that SNSD’s record will be broken now. But there have been greater records in kpop before, let’s see where SNSD stands in all of kpop history.

First we should convert the 38 wins to number of weeks won since the two music shows wins mostly overlap. Week-wise SNSD has about 22 weeks with number one wins so far.

The alltime kpop records for most week with number one wins are:

(1) Artists with more than 25 number one weeks
Jo Yongpil
Shin Seunghoon
Lee Sunhee

(2) Artists with around or near 20 number one weeks
SNSD
H.O.T.
Kim Gunmo
Seotaiji & Boys
G.O.D
Big Bang
and few other older artists like Jung Soora

SNSD won’t have problem joining group (1) soon. These records aren’t just current kpop but it’s all-time kpop (excluding pre-kpop 70’s and earlier)

But this is just a ranking of how many number one weeks the artists had and this is NOT a ranking of the greatest kpop artists. We should not get arrogant and take this as SNSD being a greater kpop artist than some others. There are many great kpop artists who has few number one songs and are not shown here. Seotaiji has less number one weeks than SNSD but no one in their right mind would claim SNSD is greater than Seotaiji~ Strictly speaking everyone here are certified kpop legends and SNSD, H.O.T., G.O.D, Big Bang are some of The Princes and Princesses. Shin, Lee, Kim, Seotaiji belong to The Kings and Queens. (Jo Yongpil is God. He has close to 100 number one weeks 0.o )

This is simply meant to be an information post, to put things in historical perspective, to show where SNSD stands record-wise in kpop history. But we can’t help but let an idea creep into our mind…That someday SNSD may join the Kings and Queens of kpop legends, something that is not thought to be possible for idol groups… It’s a long challenging but a worthy road ahead.

Does Song Yoon Ah, taking Tiffany's place will only happen during the said performance? It bothers me, SNSD wouldn't be SNSD here in the Philippines without Tiffany....i love them all but without Tiffany i think it would be really disappointing..hope i can get answers..thank you

SMTown to perform in Taiwan April 2011

MTV Taiwan “Top Entertainment” recently did a report on SHINee’s fanmeeting and conference in Taiwan. They discussed the performances by SHINee as well as the lucky fans who received clothing from the members.

The thing that caught most fans eyes was the mention of SMTOWN in Taiwan. MTV revealed that SMTOWN will be holding a concert in Taiwan with SNSD, SHINee, Super Junior, DBSK and the rest of the family sometime in April of 2011.

It looks like SME is taking more care of their fans in other countries. With the expansion to Japan, fanmeetings in Taiwan and other Asian countries, SM really is taking over Asia!

Republic of Korea Film Awards, "Please smile at SNSD's performance"

The hosts of 8th MBC Republic of Korea Film Awards told the audience to smile to SNSD’s performance right before the performance.

On the 18th, 7PM, 8th MBC Republic of Korea Film Awards raised its curtain. SNSD and Song Yun-ah performed for its opening.

The most attracting topic of this event was that MBC showed a message “Please smile while watching SNSD’s performance” on the screen.

“Please smile” was probably shown in order to prevent the incident that happened at the DaeJong Award from happening again.

Last month at 29th, SNSD performed their new song, HOOT, at the DaeJong Award. However, they received a cold response from the famous actors and actresses.

There has been controversies about the award when the netizens uploaded their captures of the actors’ and actresses’ motionless expression response.

Was it because of the fear of the recurrence of DaeJong Award incident? SNSD’s performance were accompanied with great responses and appreciation.

"First comeback after giving birth", Song Yun-ah transforms into SNSD

Song Yun-ah was recruited into SNSD to take Tiffany’s position for the performance.

At MBC 8th Republic of Korea Film Awards Celebration, for the first performance after giving childbirth, Song Yun-ah danced to “Tell Me Your Wish” along with the members of SNSD.

The celebration did not take place for 3 consecutive years since 2007. Song Yun-ah took the position as the MC. In spite of giving childbirth recently, she showed a body line as good as SNSD. Furthermore, wearing the same costume as those of SNSD, she danced perfectly to SNSD’s choreography.

After the performance, she said “I was glad that Korea Film Awards Celebration is going to take place again, and I was very honored to be asked to be the MC. However, I couldn’t sleep for several nights due to my anxiety about how I will be tortured. And that hasn’t failed on me.” She caused the audience to laugh.

She also said “Now I just performed with Asia’s star and flowers, SNSD. I feel very sorry. And I’m very thankful to the choreography teacher who made the dancing possible for me.”

She stated her views toward Korea’s films. “Even though there aren’t millions of films, Korea’s films exhibit a variety of possibilities. So, all the unique films will soon compete with each other.”
